Energy Citizens is a growing community of energy activists and advocates. We encourage all kinds of participation on our site. In order to create a safe community, we ask that all advocates understand and comply with our site terms and conditions. At various points on our website, we describe the types of personal information we collect at that point and how we handle such information. This privacy statement summarizes these descriptions of what information we collect online and how we use it.

Personal Information

We offer users the option to provide us personal information about themselves. We use this information to enable users to communicate with their legislators and to personalize user sessions. We will not reveal, rent, or otherwise make available any personal information or email addresses to third parties.

We do not disclose to third parties any information it gathers from the website which could be used to track your individual access and navigation of our site. We may use email and street addresses voluntarily provided by site visitors to notify them of updates, products, services or upcoming events. Energy Citizens Comment Policy

Energy Citizens has a presence on a number of social media platforms, including Flickr, Facebook, and Twitter. Energy Citizens actively encourages discussion about the energy issues facing our nation, and we urge our members to share their ideas, opinions, and questions using comment features available throughout the Energy Citizens site.

Please note, however, that comments not adhering to the following guidelines will not be accepted:

  • Please be sure your comment is relevant to the post, video, photo, etc. to which you’re responding. If you would like to communicate something to Energy Citizens that does not pertain to the existing conversation or content you can contact us at
  • Personal attacks, harassment or demonization of a particular individual, public official or organization are not tolerated. Postings that are libelous, defamatory, false, abusive, threatening, harassing, obscene, pornographic, violent, inflammatory or disruptive will be taken down.

User Generated Content Policy

By submitting user generated content to Energy Citizens, you will grant to Energy Citizens and The American Petroleum Institute (“API”) and its representatives, employees, agents and assigns, the irrevocable and unrestricted right to use, re-use, display, distribute, transmit, copy, reproduce, publish, re-publish, create derivative works, or otherwise exploit, either in whole or in part, audio/visual recordings, photographs, portraits and videos of me, including my image, voice, and likeness (hereinafter called “Images”), through any media including, but not limited to any and all of its publications and website entries, for editorial, promotional, educational and/or informational purposes, internal use, art, entertainment, trade, advertising or any other purpose; and to copyright in its own name and/or publish, and/or market, and/or assign the same without payment or any other consideration or further authorization by me.

You also grant Energy Citizens and API all rights in such Images, including the rights to reproduce and disseminate such Images, as well as to use such Images in whole or part as part of derivative works and/or supporting materials in conjunction with my own name.

You understand that information disclosed pursuant to this authorization may be re-disclosed and used in a webcast and in other media outlets.

You waive the right to inspect and/or approve the finished video/audio tape or stream, print, or any other materials that may be used in connection with my Images, or the use to which they may be applied so long as such use shall be lawful.

You represent that you am over the age of eighteen (18) years and that you have read the foregoing and fully understand its contents. This release shall be binding upon you, your heirs, legal representatives, and assigns.

By signing this release, you represent that you have read, understand, and agree to its terms.
